Day Trip: Château de Chantilly

This Friday, we had our NYU sponsored day trip.  I picked the trip to Chantilly (the other trip was to Versailles).  Unfortunately, as the pictures below show, it was kind of a grey and rainy day.  After a tour of the château (conducted by one of my professors, the same one who did all of the walking tours), we headed over for lunch at another château.  After lunch we had some time to walk around the grounds, but it turned out that it was pretty much just a golf course, so that was kind of a disappointment, albeit a pretty one.

Château de Chantilly

The movie, La belle et la Bête was filmed here.

Here are their gardens which I think are usually very pretty but were under construction when we were there.  There is also a zoo which, I think, has the largest population of kangaroos in France.

When this château was turned into a museum, the person that donated it insisted that none of the artwork inside be moved, which is why it isn't ordered in any logical fashion.

In this room, the windows are all stained glass and it depicts the love story of Cupid and Psyche.

In this room, all of the wall space is filled with portraits of royal family.

The library! After this room we were supposed to take a tour of the living quarters, which is where they shot a lot of the movie, but the château people insisted on having one of their own tour guides take us through the rooms.  Unfortunately, when we showed up for our tour, they couldn't find any tour guides to take us.

This is where we ate lunch.

A nice view from the window, though it actually rained for a large majority of our lunch.

Behind the château.  This is actually part of the golf course.

Another shot of the château.
